MARTIAL ARTS LIFESTYLE MAGAZINE
Martial Arts Lifestyle Magazine (MALMAG) is the creation of a couple of martial arts junkies, who are always looking for good sources of research into different martial arts and training methods. With print magazines and books disappearing and the internet being a somewhat rough sea of politics and misinformation to navigate to find reliable information, they longed for the days of the informative, well-researched, non political, and non gossip style martial arts magazine. Understanding and enjoying the modern ways people are now consuming media, they decided to pioneer a magazine that uses multi-media platforms to deliver information on martial arts, personalities, training methods, diet/nutrition, and supplemental health and fitness activities to keep you training in martial arts for a lifetime. For many of us, Martial Arts are not a hobby but are a lifestyle.
THE EDITORS IN CHIEF

TIM BECHERER

Tim Becherer started martial arts at the age of 12 in 1982. His first arts were Shorin Ryu Karate and PKA Kickboxing under Sensei Ulysses Owens

After settling in Florida in the early 1990’s, he began to study the arts of Jeet Kune Do, Kali, and Muay Thai with Sifu Loren Bookbinder.

After moving to the LA area, he started training at the Inosanto Academy of Martial Arts in 2005 where he earned his instructor rankings under Sifu Larry Hartsell (Jeet Kune Do) and Guro Dan Inosanto (Filipino Martial Arts and Jeet Kune Do).

Tim is currently an instructor at the Inosanto Academy of Martial Arts and a Senior Instructor in the Jun Fan Jeet Kune Do Grappling Association. Currently he continues his training in JKD, FMA, Majapahit Silat, Muay Thai, and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at the Inosanto Academy.

He is also currently training in the following arts: Pradal Serey/Khmer Boxing (with Master Oumry Ban, Kru Ronald Smith, and Kru Tor Ratana at the Long Beach Kickboxing Center),

Balintawak Escrima (with Grand Master Ising Atillo, Grand Master Nene Gaabucayan, Guro Ross Toro, and Master Virgil Cavada), Bolt Wrestling (with Coach Kenny Johnson), Wing Chun (with Sifu Francis Fong), and Systema (with Martin Wheeler).

After getting into martial arts, Tim brought his “nerd” habits from school into his martial arts practice by reading every martial arts publication he could get his hands on. He spent his free time in school reading martial arts magazines. After pursuing degrees in mass communication and English and having worked a full career in television post production, creating a cutting edge, digital, multi-media martial arts magazine seemed like the most natural progression in his life.
